Near the Normandy Coast and Cherbourg, we have discovered a beautiful shop which combines a wine cellar with a biscuit factory, entirely designed by the interior architect Sabrina Brien. “La Maison Renet - Au petit Versailles Gourmand” opened its doors in June 2021. Previously owner and chef of a bakery, the new landlords have decided to expand their horizon with a diversified shop.
There are plenty of things to buy at “La Maison Renet” : wine, whisky, small decoration, pastries and delicatessen. Indeed, the former Chef did not want to give up his passion and his “savoir-faire” and decided to continue to bake his specialties in this new place.
With his wife, they called Sabrina Brien, as she already did the renovation of their former bakery. The interior architect has completely reinvented this huge building of 270 square metres to bring it some authenticity. “We have only kept the building structure. In order to guide the clients towards the space they are interested in, we have redesigned everything and have decided to divide this space in several parts”.
The former office has become a corner for the small decoration, the existing vaults still contain the bottles of wine, and the rest is dedicated to the owner’s bakery and to the delicatessen which offers local products.
Each space is identified by its decoration : “At first, we wanted real patinas and true bricks, but it was not possible regarding the cost and the time. Meanwhile, L’Atelier d’Eléonore introduced me the new collection of Les Dominotiers : “Texture #Brut”. This opus of bespoke panoramic wallpaper was exactly corresponding to what we were looking for” explains Sabrina Brien.
A wine cellar with brick walls and patinated ceilings
The wine cellar is composed of a space of 80 square metres and four vaulted alcoves of 15 square metres each. Sabrina Brien and the owners have chosen the bespoke panoramic wallpaper Old Brick Wall which features a beautiful red and brown old brick wall. In the circulation space, a concrete effect PVC floor has been installed.
In the four little vaulted spaces where the bottles of wine and whisky are displayed, the bespoke panoramic wall mural Red Patina Wall has been hung on the ceilings to give the impression of a terracotta patinated wall. A cobblestone effect PVC floor perfects the old style atmosphere. The whisky cellar has been decorated with the bespoke panoramic wallpaper Woods Block Wall which recalls the manufacturing process of whisky.

A pastry and a delicatessen like the old ones of Cherbourg
The owners wanted to give a new life to this soulless building, like it was before in Cherbourg. Sabrina Brien thus drew a red wooden facade with a glass wall to separate both spaces like in Cherbourg centre. “For my client, it was essential that his customers could see that his products are home-made”.
At the end of the building, to create the illusion of a beautiful garden lied to fallow, the trompe-l’oeil bespoke panoramic wallpaper Window Garden has perfectly found its place. With its old letters which recalls the yesteryear commercial sign, the bespoke panoramic wallpaper Letters and Rough Brick Wall gives some charm to the delicatessen. Below, to bring some material, the bespoke panoramic wallpaper White Wood gives the illusion of an old wooden wall. The wooden effect PVC echoes the wall mural.

A retro shop in the spirit of the times
The corner dedicated to the small decoration has a lovely old fashioned style, which answers to the actual trends. The bespoke panoramic wallpaper Frame Patina Wall decorates the walls of the 23 square metres space. With its mouldings and its patinated and decrepit wall, this wallpaper transports us to an old shop. The cement tiles effet PVC fits perfectly with it. This spectacular project has been realised in 6 months : 2 for the conceptualisation, and 4 for works.
